Dennis’ Advice To Small Business Owners: Activate Your Google Knowledge Panel

This July 2023, Nicholas Collins, president of the Platinum Reputations agency, reconnected with Dennis at Josh Nelson’s Seven Figure Agency Mastermind. Recognizing Dennis as an expert on small or local businesses, he asks him, “What would you say to a small business owner who wants a digital marketing strategy that works in these competitive times, and what would you suggest?”

Dennis asks Nick, “When is the best time to solve a problem” It is before it happens.” Potential clients will be searching for you on Google, whether you realize it or not. If you want to know where you are now, Google your name and business name and see what comes up.

What You Need To Know About Knowledge Panels

We have seen all the recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI). Google is not going to sit down and not do anything about it. They are consolidating search results into these knowledge panels. When you search on Google, the results will show you a page with ten links or websites, which is the world of SEO. That is going away soon. Instead, it will show you a consolidated answer because Google wants to provide the AI with one answer.

Before the interview, Dennis asked Nick to Google him. When Dennis asks him what he saw, Nick replies that he saw things he has never seen before. He was so amazed. What Nick saw was Dennis’ knowledge panel.

You Don’t Have To Be a Celebrity To Activate Your Knowledge Panel

Dennis says you do not have to be a celebrity to get one but should have an existing business where Google can see traffic coming to your site, Google My Business (now known as Google Business Profile), and YouTube channel. Who owns Google Business Profile and YouTube? Google does.

So, if you practice the Dollar a Day strategy and make one-minute videos, you are already well-positioned to activate a knowledge panel for your name and business. For Dennis, that is the ultimate goal of building a reputation online.

Eventually, when you get that stuff out there, somebody, like an unsatisfied customer, will leave a bad review about you or your business. But now, you have protected yourself because if you have not established that authority with Google and have a negative review, the knowledge panel will protect you. It is harder to penetrate.
